Market Information Services was formed in 1992 when the Queensland Department of Primary Industries relinquished responsibility for operating the Official Market Reporting Service in the Brisbane Market, a role that was assumed by the then Brisbane Market Trust (later to become Brisbane Market Corporation and more recently Brisbane Markets following privatisation). Market Information Services is contracted to the Brisbane Markets to operate the Official Market Reporting Service under its juristiction.
The Reporting Service was to be privately operated and totally reliant on funding from the services that it provided. This has concept has worked successfully since the time of privatisation and has been the catalyst for similar changes in other Markets.
Brisbane Market Produce Surveyors is a firm of experienced independent produce surveyors based at the Brisbane Market. The business operates in conjunction with Market Information Services, the Official Market Reporting Service. Brisbane Market Produce Surveyors utilises the same staff and office accommodation as Market Information Services and is under the same administrative control.
